Xi Jinping Meets with Vice President Mohammad Hamid Ansari‎ of India
2014-07-05 19:11

On June 30, 2014, President Xi Jinping met with Vice President Mohammad Hamid Ansari‎ of India at the Great Hall of the People.

Xi Jinping said that China and India are important neighbors to each other and are also two biggest developing countries and emerging markets. Both countries are at a historical stage of realizing national rejuvenation and share many strategic integrating points. Both sides should well develop China-India good-neighborly and friendly relations with a strong sense of historical responsibility. It not only benefits the two peoples but also makes important contributions to promoting development and progress of mankind. China regards India as an important strategic cooperative partner and takes the China-India relations as a priority in China's diplomacy. The new Indian government has just been set up. China is willing to work with India to jointly seize the opportunities, seek common development and promote the bilateral strategic cooperative partnership to a new high. China is willing to keep close high-level exchanges, strengthen exchanges between the political parties, legislatures and local governments, and enhance understanding, mutual trust and consensus with India. Both sides should make their own development strategies converge, strengthen exchanges of experience in governance and administration of state affairs, tap cooperation potentials, and promote the construction of the Bangladesh-China-India-Myanmar economic corridor to boost regional development. Both sides should keep an overall and long-term perspective and appropriately settle differences. This year marks the Year of China-India Friendly Exchange. China hopes that both sides will take this opportunity to expand people-to-people and cultural exchanges and make the two ancient civilizations of China and India integrate more closely.

Xi Jinping said that China, India and Myanmar have just celebrated the 60th anniversary of the release of the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence. As major forces in the multi-polarization process of the world, China and India should jointly adhere to and carry forward the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence, strengthen coordination and cooperation in international affairs, and play a greater role in promoting world peace and development.

Ansari said that India and China are neighbors and two most-populous major developing countries. Developing India-China good-neighborly and friendly relations not only conforms to the fundamental interests of the two countries and two peoples, but can also set an example of harmonious coexistence and common development between countries. India attaches high importance and is firmly committed to developing relations with China, and is willing to join hands with China to abide by the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence, strengthen exchanges and cooperation, and properly deal with differences and problems to promote a constant development of the bilateral relations and jointly make new contributions to the establishment of a more just and reasonable international order.

State Councilor Yang Jiechi attended the meeting.
