To improve air quality, China IV Stage Vehicle Exhaust Emission Standard(which equals Euro 4 Standard) covering new vehicles will be introduced in Beijing in early 2008. After the new standard goes into effect, the Beijing Traffic Management Bureau will not accept applications for registration for vehicles that fail to meet the new standard.

According to related regulations, diesel vehicles will not be registered in Beijing.

Any personnel to be posted in Beijing should ensure that his gasoline vehicle brought into China after 1 January 2008 meets Euro 4 Standard for exhaust emission. Information on the exact time when the new standard goes into effect and other related matters may be found on the website of the Beijing Environmental Protection Bureau(www.bjepb.gov.cn).
