On 14 December, 2009, Ambassador Zhang Yan received a joint interview with Press Trust of India (PTI), the Hindu and the Indian Express and an exclusive interview with NDTV. He elaborated China's positions, propositions and measures on climate change, as well as the cooperation between China and India in addressing climate change.

Ambassador Zhang noted that climate change is a major challenge facing the entire humanity. The Chinese Government attaches great importance to the climate change issue and adopted firm policies, measures and actions to proactively deal with climate change. The Chinese Government has recently set out the targets to control greenhouse gas emissions, which demonstrate the greatest efforts the Chinese side has so far made and the sincerest willingness of the 1.3 billion Chinese people to respond to climate change.

Ambassador Zhang pointed out that developed countries bear historical responsibilities on the issue of climate change. They should take the lead in making substantial quantified emission reduction and provide financial, technological and capacity-building support to developing countries, so as to help them address the challenges of climate change.

Stressing that China and India have maintained close contacts and coordination on climate change issue, Ambassador Zhang said that China, India and other developing countries are victims to the excessive emissions of developed countries. Tackling climate change should not sacrifice the development, or perpetuate poverty and backwardness. Only developing countries unite as one and fight together could we make our voice heard in the Copenhagen Conference and the interests of each and every developing country truly protected.
