Chinese Embassy in India Held Reception Celebrating the 74th Anniversary of the Founding of the People's Republic of China

On 25th September 2023, the Chinese Embassy in India held a reception to celebrate the 74th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China (PRC). Over 700 guests attended the reception. Mr. Gourangalal Das, Joint Secretary of the East Asia Division of Ministry of External Affairs of India attended as the guest of honour, together with representatives from Indian government, parliament, political parties, think tanks, media, enterprises and friendly organizations, diplomatic missions, Chinese enterprises, Chinese students and overseas Chinese.

In her brief remarks, Chargé d’Affaires a.i Ma Jia said that over the past 74 years, under the strong leadership of the Communist Party of China, the Chinese people have successfully charted the path of socialism with Chinese characteristics, and brought about the two miracles of rapid economic growth and enduring social stability. President Xi Jinping put forward the concept of a community with a shared future for mankind, which has gained extensive recognition and support from the international community. The Belt and Road Initiative, the Global Development Initiative, the Global Security Initiative and the Global Civilization Initiative are bearing fruits.

Ma Jia pointed out that, over the past decade or so, China’s economy contributed up to more than 30 percent on average to world economic growth. Since the beginning of this year, the Chinese economy has maintained a sound momentum of recovery. The fundamentals sustaining China’s economic growth in the long run have not changed. The economy’s remarkable resilience, potential and vitality have not changed. The conditions underpinning high-quality development have not changed. The giant ship of the Chinese economy will continue to sail ahead. Confronting with the headwinds to economic globalization, China would like to work with partners to build an open world economy, so that the fruits of globalization could be enjoyed by all in a more equitable way.

Ma Jia stressed that China-India relations have gone beyond the bilateral scope and acquired global and strategic significance. Going forward, we hope that the two sides will follow the important consensus reached by the two leaders and translate it into concerted actions taken by all departments and in all fields, so as to bring China-India relations back to the track of sound and steady development at an early date. We hope to firmly stick to the correct direction of China-India relations, accelerate the resumption of practical cooperation and deepen it, properly manage and handle differences and sensitive issues and strengthen multilateral cooperation.

Chinese diplomat and Indian artists performed classic Indian music “Raga Marubihag” and Chinese song “Mo Lihua (the Jasmine Flower)” with piano, Sitar and Tabla. Ladies from the Embassy performed chorus “My Affections Awaits You” and “My Homeland and Me”. Students from Fo Guang Shan Cultural and Educational Centre performed traditional Chinese Wushu. The performances won the cheers and applause from the guests.

A video titled “What is China” was displayed at the reception, which introduced China’s natural scenery, history and culture, and development achievements in various fields. Photo exhibitions of “Chinese Modernization: New Opportunities for the World”, “Beautiful China” and a tea culture booth themed “Tea and the World” were also presented at the reception, the guests spoke highly of the achievements of Chinese modernization and the charm of Chinese culture.

The guests exchanged views on friendship and cooperation, sincerely congratulated the 74th Anniversary of the Founding of the People’s Republic of China, and expressed their willingness to work with the Chinese side to seize development opportunities and make more efforts and contributions to China-India friendship.
