Remarks by Spokesperson of Chinese Embassy in India on certain Indian media's interview with the head of Taiwan’s foreign affairs office

On 12th April 2024, certain Indian TV maliciously broadcasted an interview with the head of Taiwan’s foreign affairs office to advocate "Taiwan independence" and disseminate false information. We strongly deplore and firmly oppose this.

The historical ins and outs of the Taiwan question are crystal clear, so are the facts and status quo that both sides of the Taiwan Strait belong to one and the same China. China firmly opposes separatist moves toward “Taiwan independence” and interference by external forces, and never allows any room for “Taiwan independence” forces in whatever form.

What is the status quo of the Taiwan Strait? The status quo is that both sides of the Strait belong to one and the same China, Taiwan is part of China, and neither China’s sovereignty nor its territorial integrity is ever divided.

The Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) authorities have entrenched themselves in the erroneous position of “Taiwan independence,” served as a tool for anti-China forces to contain China, and become even more utterly brazen in the provocative attempt to seek “independence”. Out of their selfish motives, the DPP authorities have been headstrong in challenging the one-China principle, refused to recognize the 1992 Consensus, ignited cross-Strait confrontation, and clung to external support to seek “independence”.

"Taiwan independence" seriously threatens the well-being of Taiwan compatriots, seriously damages the fundamental interests of the Chinese nation, and will also seriously undermine peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait. It leads nowhere and is truly a dead end. Pawns will ultimately be abandoned.

Taiwan has never been and will never be a country. This is a basic historical fact and an international consensus. People on both sides of the Taiwan Strait share a close kinship, and our roots as one nation cannot be severed. As an unsettled question since the Chinese civil war, Taiwan will eventually return to the embrace of the motherland and the two sides of the Taiwan Strait will surely achieve reunification.
